Clay Pit
A resource field that produces clay. Each level raises the hourly output; outside the capital, resource fields stop at level 10.
Build times at x1 with a level 1 Main Building, which takes 100% of the base time. Level 23 is greyed out: the game publishes it, but it costs more than any warehouse will hold, so it cannot be built. Click a row to start a range and another to end it.

Levels 1 to 22 cost 29,622,540 resources and take 7925:52:40 at x1, adding 47 population and 55 culture points a day.
Primary clay production field. Produces clay every hour, and more of it at every level.
- Raise your Clay Pits to around level 8, then push one Clay Pit to level 10 to unlock the Brickyard.
- Then take the Brickyard to about level 4 before continuing the fields, for the same reason: it pays a percentage of what the pits already produce.
- A village does not have to be balanced. Four of each is ordinary, but a five-Clay Pit village exists and is worth settling for when the army you are planning eats clay faster than anything else - a hammer of Teutonic infantry will drink it. Judge that by what the army costs, not by which tribe you are.
- Nearby clay oases make such a spot better still: they multiply what the fields already make, so the two compound rather than add.
- Getting to level 10 across the four Clay Pits costs about 62,590 resources in all.
The level nobody builds. The game publishes a level 23 and nobody can reach it: one level costs about 20 million resources, far past what any warehouse will hold, so the figures exist and the build does not. 22 is the real ceiling, and only in a capital - everywhere else a field stops at 10, or 12 in a city.

A step pays that much of each of the four resources, plus the hero experience, and the hero's own level adds 2% a level above the first on top of both. A reward can be left unclaimed and taken whenever it suits: claiming it pays no health, but the experience it carries can push the hero up a level, and it is the level-up that restores full health.
A field is on four ladders at once. Only the first is earned by this field alone, so it is the only one marked on the level table; the rest need the village around it to have caught up, and a level can pay several of them together.
