About Siegewise

Calculators for strategy war games that show their working, starting with Travian: Legends.

Where this came from

This started as a spreadsheet. Years of playing Travian produced a increasingly elaborate workbook for working out how many troops a set of buildings would actually produce, what they would cost, and whether the crop would hold. It answered real questions, but it lived on one machine and could not be shared.

Siegewise is that spreadsheet rebuilt properly: the same formulas, extracted cell by cell, turned into a calculation engine that is tested against the original figures.

Why the sources are cited

Most fan calculators give you a number and no way to check it. When the number is wrong — and eventually one always is — there is nothing to inspect, so you cannot tell a typo from a rule you misunderstood.

Siegewise records, for every formula and every statistic, how well it is corroborated:

  • Corroborated — confirmed against Travian’s own documentation or in-game behaviour.
  • Sheet-only — taken from the original spreadsheet and self-consistent, but not independently confirmed.
  • Derived — worked out from other verified values.
  • Unverified — not confirmed. Where a value is unverified, the tools ask you for it rather than quietly assuming one.

That last point is the important one. It is why the Trade Office rate is a field you fill in instead of a number baked in: the published figure differs between tribes, and a wrong default would silently corrupt every result that depended on it.

How the numbers stay honest

The calculation engine is plain TypeScript with no interface code in it, tested against fixtures taken from the original spreadsheet and from Travian’s published figures. The tests are deliberately adversarial: each key formula has been checked by breaking it on purpose and confirming a test fails.

The unit pages, the comparison tool and the army calculator all run the same engine, so a stat on one page and a result on another cannot disagree. Current data is checked against T4.6, last verified 2026-08-31.

What is here now

An army calculator, a unit comparison tool, and a unit database covering all seven tribes. A building order planner and trade route tools are next, and more games will follow — Travian is first because it has the deepest maths.
