The Hospital and wounded troops

How many losses come back as wounded, what healing costs and how long it takes, what decays, and how bandages fit alongside it.

Updated 13 September 2026

A village with a Hospital gets part of every army it loses back as wounded troops, whether it lost them attacking, defending or reinforcing someone else. The Spartans' Asclepeion does the same with a bigger share.

How many come back

  • Hospital: 40% of the village's losses.
  • Asclepeion: 60%.

It only counts for units from a village that had the building when the battle happened. Siege engines, settlers, administrators and the hero are never wounded, and nor are troops killed while escaping a trap.

Wounded troops do not fight and do not eat.

Healing

  • Healing costs the same resources as training the unit again.
  • It takes half the time a Barracks or Stable of the same level would take. A level 20 Barracks trains an Ash Warden in 80 seconds; a level 20 Hospital heals one in 40.
  • Infantry and cavalry share one queue.
  • Nothing else speeds it up: not artefacts, alliance bonuses, hero items or the Horse Drinking Trough.

So the Hospital is not a discount. What it buys is time - an army rebuilt in half the hours - and training capacity, since the Barracks and Stable stay free for new troops.

Decay

Wounded troops that are not in the healing queue die off at 10% a day. The moment they are queued, they stop dying. Queue them early.

When things go wrong

  • If the Hospital is destroyed, the queue carries on, and so does the decay.
  • If it is destroyed in the battle that wounds the troops, the wounded are still counted, but cannot be reached until it is rebuilt.
  • If the village is conquered, the wounded are lost with every other troop - see Administrators: loyalty and conquering villages.

Bandages are separate

A Small Bandage or Bandage equipped before a battle brings back up to 25% or 33% of the losses straight after it, one unit per bandage. The Hospital does not care: of 100 losses, 33 bandages bring 33 back and the Hospital still returns 40 as wounded.
