What stands out

  • For the price it is the second-cheapest defence against cavalry in the game, at 15.9 per 100 resources.
  • At Smithy level 20 its attack rises from 15 to 23.7, a 58% gain - the third-biggest relative gain any troop gets from upgrades. Each level adds a flat amount tied to upkeep on top of a share of the base stat, so a cheap, low-stat unit gains the most.
  • It is the cheapest Gaul defence against infantry, at 12.7 per 100 resources.

Smithy upgrades

Each smithy level raises a stat by a fraction of its base plus a term scaled by crop consumption. The crop term is why a unit’s gain is not simply a percentage of its base stat: relative to their stats, high-upkeep units gain the most.
